THE ROLE
We are partnering with a reputable Canadian law firm located in Surrey, BC. Currently, we are looking to add an additional member to their team as they have a need for a Legal Bookkeeper.
Our client is one of the Fraser Valley’s largest and most well-established law firms, with a team of more than 30 talented lawyers and 70 excellent support staff. RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Batching, posting, and entering daily transactions such as client disbursements, cheques, billings, and deposits and maintaining accounting records.
· Preparing General and Trust cheques and Deposits
· Managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
· Processing semi-monthly Payroll, including annual T4 filings and maintaining confidential payroll records and group benefit plans
· Preparing and posting monthly adjusting journal entries
· Performing monthly General and Trust bank reconciliations including Trust listings
· Preparing and processing various monthly and annual Provincial and Federal filings and remittances such as PST, GST, WCB etc.
· Preparing and processing various quarterly and annual professional filings with the Law Society of British Columbia including annual Self-Trust Audit Report
· Assisting with the preparation of firm financial statements (Monthly and Annually)
· Training junior staff in accounting-related duties such as receipting and posting disbursements.
· Communicate with software support as it relates to the accounting department.
· Maintain relationships with bank account managers.
· Monitor several bank accounts.
· Respond to requests and inquiries from the Law Society
REQUIREMENTS:
· 5+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, experience working at a law firm is a bonus
· Strong Computer skills: MS 365, word processing, law office accounting software (ESILAW; Ghost Practice, etc.), document management software, virtual platform software (Zoom / Microsoft Teams etc.)
· Excellent writing and communication skills
· Excellent people management skills
