THE ROLE
STRIVE has partnered with a mining client that is actively engaged in the development of large-scale projects within mining-friendly jurisdictions throughout the Americas.
The client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controller to join the team. As the Controller, you will play a critical role in managing the company's financial reporting processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial information, and supporting compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Reporting to the VP Finance & Corporate Secretary, the Controller will be responsible for:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare all external reporting disclosures and quarterly materials for executive management/board
- Prepare accounting memos for significant/complex transactions
- Preparation of quarterly balance sheet and P&L analysis and documenting variances
- Responsible for all the corporate general ledgers including preparing/reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to prepaid expenses, property and equipment amortization, interest accruals, payroll, lease accounting and share-based compensation
- Prepare consolidation of foreign based subsidiaries and Canadian entities
- Chart of accounts maintenance
- Assisting with income tax provision preparation and corporate income tax returns
- Manage and supervise the accountant and accounts payable clerk
- Review and reconcile intercompany and clearing accounts
- Review accounts payable preparation and treasury management
- Provide ongoing support to the VP Finance/CFO as requested
- Assist in the corporate budgeting and forecasting process
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the internal controls, accounting policies and procedures
- Assist in the facilitation of the external audit process - prepare working papers for the auditors
- Assist in adhoc Finance projects i.e. finance input for financial models in technical reports
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5 years of experience
- Experience in the mining industry is preferred
- CPA Designation is preferred
- Experience with financial reporting (IFRS) and consolidated reporting - at publicly-listed company - is a MUST
- Experience with Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICFR)
- Strong analytical abilities and experience with budgeting, forecasting, and analysis
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments
- Sound knowledge of appropriate controls and ability to review and improve processes and controls
- Exposure to taxation in Canada, US and in foreign jurisdictions
- Exposure to multi-entity consolidations
