Reporting to the Controller, the Accounts Payable Specialist will be a key team member within the accounting operations of our rapidly growing company. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounts payable of the company, assist with the preparation of financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The ideal candidate must possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and part of a team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Processes and pays invoices accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with agreements and pricing.
  • Adheres to Canadian cannabis industry regulations in all financial transactions and record-keeping.
  • Maintains strong, collaborative relationships with vendors.
  • Reconciles expenses, verifies transaction accuracy and produces regular accounts payable reports.
  • Implements and upholds internal controls to prevent errors and fraud in the accounts payable process.
  • Supports financial audits by providing thorough and organized accounts payable documentation.
  • Utilizes and maintains accounts payable and ledger software, staying abreast of technological improvements.
  • Addresses billing discrepancies and disputes swiftly to maintain vendor relationships and financial accuracy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 3 years of accounts payable or general accounting experience, with preference given to candidates who have worked in the retail or cannabis industry.
  • Cannabis industry or retail environment experience is an asset.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online required, as well as MS Excel, and additional data entry.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail in processing financial documents and managing data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for dealing with vendors, colleagues, and management.
  • Ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and solve problems effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, capable of meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work well within a team and collaborate with other departments.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing regulations and company needs, with a willingness to take on additional responsibilities as required.
