THE ROLE

STRIVE has partnered with an esteemed client in the construction/development industry as they look to hire a Project Accounting Manager for their Vancouver office. This is a great opportunity to work with a renowned company, and expand your current real estate experience at one of Vancouver's top employers.

Reporting to the Director, the candidate will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial aspects of all real estate development projects. Your primary focus will be to ensure accurate project accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical abilities, and effective communication skills as you will be required to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support the successful development of various real estate projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all aspects of project accounting, including developing, monitoring and maintaining budgets
  • Monitor project budgets, expenses, and cash flow to ensure projects are financially viable and meet financial objectives.
  • Conduct regular financial reviews and provide insights to project teams to support decision-making.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports, including variance analysis and cost projections, for internal stakeholders and senior management. Collaborate with project teams to track and report on financial performance against established budgets and benchmarks.
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop project budgets and forecasts and optimize project profitability.
  • Implement and maintain effective cost-control measures to monitor project expenses and minimize financial risks.
  • Review project contracts, change orders, and other financial documents to ensure accuracy and adherence to budgetary constraints, compliance and policies.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend strategies to improve project efficiency and profitability.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Coordinate with auditors and regulatory agencies during financial audits and reviews.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, accounting principles, and regulatory changes affecting project accounting practices.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve project accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency. Implement best practices for cost control, financial management, and reporting standards across projects.
  • Lead and mentor a team of project accountants, providing guidance and support to foster professional development and teamwork.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align financial objectives with project goals.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between finance and project teams to ensure transparency and accuracy in financial reporting.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project accounting or related roles within the real estate development or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of project accounting principles, cost control techniques, and forecasting/budgeting skills
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and a high level of integrity in handling confidential information.
