THE ROLE
We are partnering with a reputable Canadian law firm that has years of experience in the legal industry in Vancouver.
Currently, we are looking to add an additional member to their HR team as they have a need for a Human Resources Generalist.
This role reports to the HR Manager and has responsibilities spanning various HR functions, including talent acquisition, performance management, health and safety, learning and development and onboarding/off-boarding.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
HR
- Provides support and guidance to employees on HR-related matters and understands the pulse of the firm ensuring effective communication and employee engagement.
- Supports the HR Manager in implementing programs to help improve the employee experience.
- Leads the full-cycle recruitment process including preparation of job postings, screening applicants, recommending candidates for interviews, selection of suitable candidates, conducting reference checks and related correspondence.
- Participates in administering the performance management process including annual performance reviews and related performance improvement programs.
- Processes time-off requests for staff and tracks staff absences. Coordinates assistance for lawyers when staff are absent or when overflow is required.
- Maintains a bring-forward system for scheduling meetings, probationary/ performance reviews, annual projects, vacation entitlements etc.
- Conducts employee onboarding and offboarding.
- Member of the firm’s Health & Safety Committee.
- Coordinates yearly HR events (Flu Vaccinations, Staff Appreciation Week etc.).
- Participates in mid-year and year-end budget procedures (i.e. create spreadsheets, gather and input data and make projections).
- Provides consultation and advice to managers and lawyers on a variety of employee relations and HR issues.
- Leads planning for professional development sessions for legal staff.
- Acts as Payroll back-up.
Legal Talent
- Provides support to the Manager, Legal Talent with the legal students recruitment process, onboarding and offboarding.
- Coordinates all documents and applications for students with the Law Society of BC.
- Assists with executing call ceremonies.
- Acts as point of contact to legal students.
- Participates in administering the performance review process and compensation reviews for all Associates.
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-Secondary degree, certificate, or diploma in HR
- 3+ years of experience working in HR
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, policies and procedures across Human Resources.
- Knowledge and experience with HRIS systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Strong problem resolution skills and the ability to effectively respond to questions and concerns from employees.
- Has sound judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally via verbal and written communication.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of an organization.
- Customer-focused mindset with high level of professionalism, employee confidentiality and discretion.
- Able to maintain a positive and professional attitude and disposition.
COMPENSATION
- $70,000 – $80,000
