The Role
Our client is a leading and reputable food manufacturer based in Surrey, BC known for its artisanal quality, innovation, and commitment to excellence and on their behalf, we are looking for a Regulatory Affairs Specialist to join there close knit team! This is a full-time, permanent, Monday to Friday position.
The Regulatory Affairs Specialist oversees the development and execution of systems and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves providing expert guidance on new product development, validating claims for existing products, and collaborating with key teams like R&D, Quality Assurance, and Production to meet all regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain accurate food labeling information for finished and R&D products, ensuring compliance with regulations and alignment with customer requirements (e.g., allergens, nutrition, ingredient statements, product names, claims).
- Provide guidance and insights on industry regulations, amendments, and best practices to customers.
- Develop copy deck templates for artwork, review designs for regulatory compliance, and approve packaging materials.
- Support Front-of-Pack labeling reformulation projects, conducting analysis and ensuring all execution requirements are met.
- Oversee the management of product specifications and documentation for both new and existing products.
- Ensure all necessary documentation is completed and uploaded to the ERP system prior to product launches.
- Collaborate in meetings to coordinate product launches, approve packaging materials, and finalize product specifications.
- Address technical inquiries from suppliers, customers, and consumers, offering clear guidance on labeling compliance issues.
- Critically review promotional materials to confirm adherence to federal and provincial regulations.
- Contribute to the development and updates of food labeling policies and procedures as needed.
- Maintain an active and accurate list of Gluten-Free, Kosher, and Organic products.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in a food regulatory affairs role.
- Degree/diploma in Food Science, Food Safety or related field.
- Solid understanding of Canadian and U.S. food and nutritional regulations.
- Hands-on experience with Food Quality Management Systems such as HACCP, SQF, Gluten-Free, and Organic certifications.
- Proficiency with computer databases and systems such as Microsoft Suite. Experience with Genesis databases and Business Vision systems is an asset.
- Highly organized with strong planning skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- A proactive, results-oriented mindset, combined with critical thinking and a positive attitude.
Compensation
- $65,000-$75,000 yearly
