THE ROLE
STRIVE is currently collaborating on an exciting Senior Payroll Specialist position with a reputable company committed to promoting sustainable transportation solutions. The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise in payroll and HR systems, ready to advance their career by enhancing processes and driving improvements as our organization evolves.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage and process payroll for ~150 (salaried) employees ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing across all jurisdictions of Canada (Predominantly BC) using Dayforce
• Manage relationships with external payroll vendors for international payroll, such as Italy, China payroll processing.
• Oversee employee leave management, including disability claims, workers’ compensation, and statutory leaves of absence.
• Working closely with the Director of HR, administer benefit programs, including health and pension plans, and support the annual review of benefit providers.
• Prepare/lead Monthly and Quarterly and year-end payroll, HR and financial reporting l activities, including accruals, audit preparations, T4s, and other statutory reporting requirements.
• Payroll Compliance: Support the implementation of internal policies to ensure compliance with applicable legislation pertaining to benefits and payroll (NA). Work with third parties ensuring compliance with applicable local regulations at international locations
• Develop and maintain relationships with external benefit and payroll advisors/consultants/tax experts
• Manage employee experience processes including new hires, off boarding, changes in pay rates and accruals.
• Liaise with government agencies and applicable Revenue agency (CRA, IRS, HMRC) in matters pertaining to payroll, taxation, remittances, pensions
• Reconcile and remit all payroll and company benefit liabilities (ie, statutory deductions, EHT, WCB).
• Develop and improve payroll policies, standards and business processes within Dayforce.
• Ensure accurate and timely management of employee data through continuous improvement of procedures and process.
• Provide accurate data reporting including headcount, ESG as well as configuration of Dayforce dashboards
• Subject matter expert for Dayforce Payroll and HR modules: performance, onboarding, workflows
• Analyze & audit HR data & process flows, identifying, recommending & implementing process improvements & system enhancements to improve efficiency and compliance
• Lead the annual review of our benefit plans including the evaluation of brokers and insurance providers
• Support compensation survey participation for NA (i.e. summarizing data, reviewing submissions etc.)
• Support in compensation reviews for applicable client groups, including promotions/transitions, bonus and annual merit administration, and distribution of employee letters Human Resources Coordination
• Lead the employee experience for all on and off boarding activities – i.e. orientations
• Work with HR business partners, recruitment to own the data processing and reporting requirements
• Support employees with employee benefit, health and wellness program enquires
• Responsible for the implementation/evaluation of other tools and technology to support the Human Resources function in order to improve efficiency & Effectiveness
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Over 5 years of progressive experience as a Canadian payroll specialist, with strong technical knowledge of relevant payroll and benefits legislation.
- Degree or diploma in Business, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field, ideally with a CPM designation.
- Solid business acumen to align HR strategies with business objectives and unit goals.
- Experience with payroll and benefits systems, including the design, development, management, and maintenance of integrated payroll/benefits systems, with a preference for experience in Ceridian/Dayforce.
- Strong research skills across various mediums to stay updated on best practices, industry trends, and relevant legislation.
- Proficient IT skills, including familiarity with databases and current software packages; advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables) are preferred.
- A collaborative team player with demonstrated professionalism, emotional maturity, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy and high ethical standards.

- Familiarity with Canadian (PIPA) and EU (GDPR) privacy legislation is an asset.
