The Role

Our client, a highly respected national construction firm with over 55 years of industry excellence, is seeking a Senior Estimator – Water/Wastewater Construction to join their growing Civil Estimating team.

This is a key role within a high-performing preconstruction group, supporting a wide range of civil infrastructure projects across Canada, with a strong focus on water and wastewater treatment facilities.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in preparing competitive, accurate, and risk-informed tenders from concept through to submission, contributing directly to project wins and long-term client success.

Location: Multiple locations across Canada (ON, AB, BC – Mississauga, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Burnaby, Kelowna)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of detailed, accurate cost estimates and competitive tenders from concept to submission
  • Review drawings and specifications to fully understand project scope, risks, and requirements
  • Solicit, evaluate, and manage subcontractor and supplier quotations
  • Prepare and review detailed scopes of work for trades and suppliers
  • Perform self-take-offs with emphasis on self-performed and self-priced work
  • Participate in tender closing and final submission strategy with senior leadership
  • Assist in estimate coding and handoff processes upon successful award
  • Review preliminary construction schedules using MS Project
  • Identify project risks, opportunities, and site conditions impacting cost and execution
  • Liaise with engineers, consultants, owners, and subcontractors to support value engineering initiatives
  • Support bid strategy development alongside Chief Estimator and Major Projects team
  • Participate in P3, Design-Build, and alternative delivery model pursuits
  • Build and maintain strong subcontractor and supplier relationships
  • Mentor and support junior estimating staff
  • Evaluate construction sequencing, tie-ins, staging, and operational flow within active facilities

Requirements

  • 7+ years of estimating experience in Water / Wastewater construction OR a combined PM/Estimator background in the same sector
  • Strong general contractor experience in civil construction environments
  • Proven experience preparing full-cycle estimates and managing tender submissions
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, risk evaluation, and cost modelling
  • Experience coordinating subcontractor and supplier pricing
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Bluebeam, PlanSwift, and/or CostX (asset but strongly preferred)
  • Ability to review and interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents independently
  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent trade certification/experience
  • Mechanical exposure in food & beverage or chemical environments (asset but strongly preferred)
  • Process mechanical construction experience (asset but strongly preferred)
  • Background in civil excavation and site piping (asset but strongly preferred)
