THE ROLE

STRIVE Recruitment are currently partnered with one the most well-respected and recognized law practices in Western Canada as they look to hire a Senior Accountant. This role reports directly to the Director of Finance. Ideal candidates should have at least 5 years of accounting experience within the legal industry. A bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus on accounting or finance is the minimum educational requirement. Candidates with a CPA designation will be given preference. The employer provides a hybrid work arrangement to support a healthy work-life balance for all employees.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee trust accounting to ensure full compliance with Law Society of BC regulations.
  • Lead the billing process, including posting, trust transfers, WIP review, and managing write-offs, while coordinating with the Billing Coordinator and AR Specialist to complete the monthly billing cycle efficiently.
  • Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and journal entries at month-end.
  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Review accounts payable for weekly payment runs.
  • Handle regulatory reporting obligations, such as PST, GST, EHT, and WCB.
  • Generate financial reports and assist senior leadership with budgeting as needed.
  • Establish and uphold best practices for accounting procedures.
  • Address and resolve escalated billing and accounting issues.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of accounting experience in the legal sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with a focus on accounting or finance.
  • CPA designation or active enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) is preferred.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with trust accounting principles.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Word and Outlook.
  • Experience with accounting software, preferably Acumin.
  • Familiarity with document management systems, such as Worldox, is an asset.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative internal and external relationships.
  • Outstanding client service abilities.
  • Proven discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
