THE ROLE

Our recruitment team is currently working with a growing custom production manufacturer seeking a Red Seal Machinist to work fully in the office at the location in Pitt Meadows. Shift times: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday to Friday. Flexibility is required for overtime and potential earlier start times.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set operation and maintenance of CNC machines, including vertical and horizontal mills, lathes, and other precision equipment.
  • Collaborate with other machinists to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software to develop and modify CNC programs, ensuring optimal machining processes and efficient material usage.
  • Execute CNC programming tasks, including toolpath generation, tool selection, and machine parameter adjustments, to achieve desired part dimensions and surface finishes.
  • Perform comprehensive material handling tasks, including loading and unloading raw materials, workpieces, and cutting tools, adhering to established safety procedures and ergonomic principles.
  • Conduct routine machine maintenance activities, such as cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs, to ensure equipment functionality and longevity.
  • Employ advanced metrology techniques and precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to verify part dimensions and tolerances within tight specifications.
  • Troubleshoot machine malfunctions and process deviations, analyzing root causes and implementing corrective actions to minimize production downtime and scrap rates.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to machining activities, including production logs, inspection reports, and tooling inventories, to support traceability and process traceability requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years of experience in automation, design, machining, and maintenance on lathes and CNC.
  • Red Seal Machinist certification required.
  • DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) files and AutoCAD experience. (No need to edit AutoCAD files, but the viewer to interpret drawings). 
  • Demonstrate proficiency in machining various materials, including metals, while adhering to material-specific machining guidelines and best practices.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, proposing and implementing enhancements to machining processes, tooling strategies, and quality control procedures.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to work on different shifts, accommodate changing production schedules, and support organizational goals during peak periods or special projects.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to quality excellence, craftsmanship, and attention to detail, while striving for operational excellence and customer satisfaction in all machining operations.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and teamwork by adhering to regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practices, while actively contributing to a positive work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and cross-functional stakeholders to coordinate workflow priorities, address production challenges, and ensure the timely completion of machining tasks.
  • Microsoft Office, with a focus on Excel and Outlook.
  • Having access to reliable transportation.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Preference is given to those coming from structured steel/aluminum /copper/metal/wood/plastic custom product manufacturing companies.
  • Proven high level of attention to detail in all aspects of the job, ensuring no element is overlooked.
  • Strong problem-solving to proactively identify potential issues.
  • Adhere to strict company policies.

COMPENSATION:

  • $43 - $48 an hour, depending on experience. Open for negotiation for the right candidate. This position will be salaried.
