THE ROLE
STRIVE is partnered with a prominent, fast-growing alternate private mortgage lender located in downtown Vancouver. Their business supports borrowers with custom real estate financing and contributes to investors’ financial success. This client has built a mortgage portfolio size of over $300 million and are experiencing further growth which has led to this newly created Paralegal position.
Reporting to the Managing Broker, the Paralegal will be working alongside their professional executive team that has over 75 years combined industry experience, with expertise in property development, public accounting, and mortgage financing.
Position Overview: You will be a key point of contact for conveyancing and litigation issues with various business partners, and other business stakeholders, including brokers, lenders (in syndicated mortgages), appraisers, and borrowers. You will be responsible for supporting the resolution of non-performing loans and managing the entire foreclosure lifecycle. This is a unique, non-traditional paralegal role that offers exposure to both legal and business aspects of the mortgage and real estate industries.
Key Responsibilities:
· Liaison and Communication: Act as a key point of contact for various business partners, including brokers, lenders, appraisers, and borrowers.
· Non-Performing Loan Management: Assist in negotiating and resolving non-performing loans, ensuring all necessary documentation and processes are followed through efficiently.
· Foreclosure Lifecycle: Manage and support the entire foreclosure process, from initiation to resolution, ensuring all timelines and documentation are accurate and in compliance with legal requirements.
· Exception Management: Support the resolution of mortgage exceptions, ensuring compliance with legal standards and internal policies.
· Document Review and Management: Assist in reviewing legal documents, such as land titles, Form A, B, and C, and other relevant legal instruments. Ensure accuracy and completeness in all documentation throughout the foreclosure and mortgage syndication processes.
· Compliance Support: Ensure compliance with relevant bylaws, city governance regulations, and legal requirements. Provide guidance to internal teams on basic legal concepts related to real estate finance and mortgage lending.
· Collaboration with Lawyers and Other Stakeholders: Work closely with conveyancing and litigation lawyers to draft legal instructions, manage documentation, and track progress on active cases.
· Administrative Support: Perform key administrative tasks such as managing legal files, coordinating communication between stakeholders, and maintaining organized records of legal proceedings.
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in real estate finance, mortgage lending, or a related field, with a strong understanding of legal processes in these areas. Experience in managing non-performing loans, foreclosures, and legal documentation is essential.
· Undergraduate or Associate degree in a relevant field. Paralegal certification or other legal training is strongly preferred.
· Familiarity with legal concepts related to real estate, including the ability to read and interpret land titles, Form A, B, and C, and other legal documents related to mortgages and foreclosures.
· Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work under tight deadlines. Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accuracy in high-pressure environments.
· Must be located in Vancouver or the surrounding area, as this is an in-office role with one day per week work-from-home flexibility.
· Strong communicator with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proactive, adaptable, and solution-oriented with a keen eye for detail and a strong sense of professionalism.
