THE ROLE
Our recruitment team is currently working with one of the leading distributors in Canada. Recognized as one of the Top 100 Best Employers, our client continues to face constant growth, with multiple locations across North America. The Delta branch is currently seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Assistant, offering $22 to $25 an hour to start (plus a discretionary annual bonus) with the opportunity for negotiation for the right candidate and a potential wage increase depending on performance in the role.
This position offers daytime shifts from Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with flexibility to start at 7 AM when needed. Weekend work may be required from time to time.
The Occupational Health and Safety Assistant is in charge of documentation, information management, scheduling, and maintaining organized safety records. The role focuses on coordinating and tracking safety-related activities, maintaining accurate records, and supporting reporting processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and update employee training logs and certification records.
- Enter and organize information related to incident reports and other safety documentation.
- Support the preparation and organization of safety reports, audit materials, and regulatory compliance files.
- Gather safety performance data and assist in preparing summaries, charts, and visual presentations of key safety indicators.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel and other Office applications to generate basic statistical summaries, graphs, pie charts, and visual tools such as heat maps for safety analysis.
- Coordinate scheduling for safety training sessions, safety meetings, and related departmental activities.
- Take meeting notes and distribute summaries to relevant stakeholders.
- Manage document control for safety procedures, guidelines, and internal safety communications.
- Assist with internal communications and administrative coordination for the Health and Safety team.
- Provide day-to-day administrative assistance to the Health and Safety Manager.
- Complete additional administrative tasks as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2 years in a health and safety administrative capacity.
- Comfortable working with computers, including commanding experience with Excel spreadsheets and formulas, as well as email platforms.
- Strong computer skills are required to help organize safety data and assist with preparing visual summaries that support safety monitoring and performance reviews.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to compile and analyze data to create charts, graphs, and basic statistical visuals such as pie charts and heat maps.
- Experience working with spreadsheets, document preparation, and record organization.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to handle multiple administrative responsibilities simultaneously.
- Exposure to workplace health and safety documentation or familiarity with regulatory resources (such as WorkSafe) is considered beneficial.
COMPENSATION:
- $22 to $25 an hour, depending on experience. Opportunity for a wage increase depending on performance.
