THE ROLE
We are partnering with a well-respected litigation boutique with a national presence and deep expertise in insurance, class actions, and health law. With offices in Vancouver and Toronto, this firm is known for its collaborative culture and high-calibre legal work across multiple jurisdictions.
We are recruiting for a Litigation Paralegal to join their growing Vancouver office. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced litigators who appear before courts at all levels, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
Supporting 1 Partner, the successful candidate will have experience working on Construction files and is comfortable with voluminous production of documents/having multiple counsel on files.
Responsibilities
- Drafting applications and affidavits in support.
- Drafting orders and other pleadings.
- Reviewing and summarizing records, cross-referencing and pinpointing documents.
- Citing, assembling and side-barring authorities.
- Case management (updating clients, managing deadlines and communicating with experts, witnesses, defence counsel and courts).
Requirements
- Paralegal Certificate or relevant experience.
- 1-2 years’ experience as a civil/commercial litigation paralegal (BC law).
- Experience with construction files, managing large volumes of documents, and working with multiple counsel.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to deal directly with clients and all levels of staff.
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Excellent attention to detail, be organized and proactive, able to multi-task and handle changing priorities.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in MS Word and ability to learn new software and technology quickly.
- Experience with ProLaw an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules of Court and ability to interpret Rules. Familiarity with civil procedure of other jurisdictions (AB, SK, ON and QC) an asset.
