The Role
Our client in the heavy-duty space is looking for a Shop Heavy Duty Mechanic in a non-unionized environment. This role is a daytime position with a starting time at 7 AM or 8 AM Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime for any on-call emergencies and no weekend work. Preference is given to those in the heavy-duty mechanic, commercial transport, and millwright trades. Preference is given to those holding a Red Seal certificate.
Performing assembly, dissassembly and repair to hydraulic components, diesel engines, trucks, cranes, and additional transportation and mobile equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform repairs and maintenance on equipment in accordance with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
- Diagnosing equipment by locating sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems, and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Ensure proper operation of equipment through checks and tests. Replace or repair defective parts in equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production breakdowns.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
- Interpret technical manuals to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and warranty requirements.
- Execute routine scheduled Planned Maintenance (PM) services, appraisals, and Safety Inspections.
- Use of computerized maintenance management software (CMMS). Developing maintenance schedules for major and minor equipment as well as facility needs (PM’s)
- Maintain client relationships with professional interactions during client drop by's at the shop.
Requirements
- Comfortable working fully on-site.
- Red Seal certification in Commercial Transport, Heavy Duty Mechanic, or Millwright preferred. 3rd and 4th Class welcome.
- 3+ years of experience in a heavy-duty mechanic space, performing repairs on trucks, cranes, hydraulic systems, engines, and mobile equipment, including cranes. Welding and electrical knowledge is a strong asset.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with the technician team and fill out worksheets.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, allowing for efficient identification and resolution of equipment issues.
- Ability to work as part of a team and also be proactive and work on one's own initiative.
- Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Time management and priority management skills.
- Has own tools.
Compensation
- $35-$40 an hour for those without a Red Seal status.
- $45 an hour for those holding a Red Seal certification.
