THE ROLE

STRIVE Recruitment is working with a well reputable design-build firm in Vancouver BC, looking for a Director of Construction. Reporting directly to the Owner, the Director of Construction will oversee the quality, safety and high-quality execution for the portfolio of projects, with responsibility for maintaining relationships with the Project management team throughout the project life cycle.

Responsibilities

Leadership and management

• Lead a construction team of 5 or more people including project managers, site superintendents and estimation department

• Oversee hiring, training and professional development of construction staff

Project Oversight

• Oversee all aspects of construction operations, including estimating, planning, and executing various sector projects.

• Develop and maintain the construction schedule with the project team to meet milestones and completion dates for design-build projects.

• Lead project meetings with internal and external stakeholders to monitor and support the ongoing progress of projects.

• Identify and manage opportunities and risks specific to design-build projects to achieve the best possible impact on schedule and financial targets.

• Maintain, track, and report all financial aspects of design-build projects, including forecasts and billings.

• Manage the company portfolio of commercial tenant improvement projects throughout the project life cycle.

• Monitor the progress of the design, ensuring compliance, quality, general coordination, constructability, and timing of deliverables.

• Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

• Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, quality, and safety compliance.

• Assist in the pre-construction process in collaboration with the sales team.

• Ensure project health, safety, and environmental standards meet or exceed legislative requirements and company policies.

Estimating and Planning

• Oversee the estimation process, ensuring accurate and competitive bids.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Monitor industry trends and best practices to ensure the company remains competitive and innovative.

• Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and client satisfaction.

• Collaborate with directors and the ownership group within the company.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in engineering or construction management.

• Over 10 years of experience in construction, with extensive leadership roles within a construction environment.

• Proven track record of successfully leading commercial projects with budgets of approximately $5 million or higher.

• Extensive experience managing multiple project delivery contracts simultaneously.

• Possesses a substantial network of clients, trades, and consulting companies.

• Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills, including the ability to manage project budgets and schedules.

• Ability to identify and manage risks and opportunities on construction projects.

• Procore experience is an asset.

• Demonstrated ability to ensure successful project completions, profitability, and retention of owners as ongoing clients of the company.

• Ability to lead, operate, and define a developing division and manage change effectively.

• Highly developed interpersonal skills and a strong customer service orientation.
