THE ROLE
STRIVE has partnered with an esteemed client in the construction/development industry as they look to hire a Corporate Accountant for their Vancouver office. This is a great opportunity to work with a renowned company, and expand your current real estate experience at one of Vancouver's top employers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Ensure accuracy and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal policies.
- Preserve the integrity of the general ledger by recording and reconciling transactions and accounts. Execute month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and real estate brokerage regulations. Implement and maintain effective internal controls to mitigate financial risks.
- Assist with external audits by ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards. Prepare necessary documentation and address audit inquiries.
- Review and process property-related expenses, such as invoices, utilities, maintenance, and repairs. Ensure correct coding and allocation of expenses to the appropriate properties.
- Perform financial analysis and variance explanations to identify trends, areas for improvement, and potential risks. Offer insights and recommendations to enhance property performance and financial results.
- Work with departments such as property accounting, project accounting, tax, and legal to gather financial information, resolve issues, and provide financial guidance and support.
- Regularly assess and enhance accounting processes and procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness. Identify opportunities for automation and streamline financial workflows.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) or an equivalent certification is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Corporate Accountant or in a similar role, demonstrating a strong grasp of accounting principles and financial analysis.
- Deep knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations (GAAP).
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi) and advanced Excel capabilities.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and recognize trends and patterns.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and thoroughness in work.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating with and building relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team-oriented environment.
