A family-run company since the 1950s, they have built a strong real estate portfolio that includes residential properties, a resort, a hotel, a shopping center, and an office building where their corporate headquarters is based.

THE ROLE

Our client is looking for a Controller to join their team. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role is responsible for managing the accounting and financial reporting functions, including financial statement preparation, general ledger maintenance, tax filings, and internal controls. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-sufficient accounting professional who wants to work in a collaborative environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting
  • Prepare and review financial statements, balance sheets, and income statements
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure timely financial transactions
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies
  • Monitor and analyze budgets and prepare variance reports
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and tax filings (GST/PST, corporate tax, personal tax)
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to provide financial analysis and support
  • Assist in the year-end audit process

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA designation (or working towards it) preferred
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in real estate
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Previous leadership or management experience is an asset
