THE ROLE
We are partnering with a well-respected litigation boutique with a national presence and deep expertise in insurance, class actions, and health law. With offices in Vancouver and Toronto, this firm is known for its collaborative culture and high-calibre legal work across multiple jurisdictions.
We are recruiting for an Accountant to join their Vancouver office, responsible for both Vancouver and Toronto. This role offers the opportunity to oversee an accounting team of 3, reporting to the Partners.
This position is ideal for someone detail-oriented, proactive, and hands-on.
Responsibilities
- Handling day-to-day accounting functions for the firm;
- Preparing and managing the firm’s budget;
- Managing cash flow, and tax compliance;
- Managing the firm’s banking relationships;
- Assisting with management of the firm’s employee share ownership plan, including maintenance of associated reporting tools and schedules;
- Maintaining accurate and detailed financial records;
- Playing a key role in the transition of the firm’s new business solution;
- Preparing regular, timely and accurate financial reports of operational results, trends, and projections for all locations;
- Managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting team, including AP, AR, billing, payroll, trust accounts, and various account reconciliations;
- Supporting the accounting team by way of mentorship, career development and performance;
- Managing the trust accounts in accordance with the Law Society rules, ensuring that the internal control systems comply with Law Society audit standards, and reporting any errors;
- Administering payroll and compensation systems, including dividends and bonuses;
- Preparing, analyzing and presenting standard and customized financial reports and forecasts for all locations;
- Preparing year-end financial statements and supporting working papers, and coordinating with the firm’s external accountant;
- Managing the firm’s budgeting processes and analyzing the firm’s performance metrics;
- Reviewing processes and functions of the accounting team; and,
- Maintaining the established general ledger system and monitoring internal financial controls.
Requirements
- College or university completion with Accounting focus
- Proven experience as an accountant or similar role with minimum 3 years of experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to easily manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Proficiency with Excel and experience with ProLaw, or similar accounting software, is a plus
- Ability to execute duties with tact and diplomacy while maintaining strict confidentiality
