THE ROLE

Our client is a leading full-service Canadian law firm seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to join its Bankruptcy & Insolvency group in Vancouver.

This is a full-time, permanent, in-office position suited to a highly organized and detail-oriented legal professional who can manage competing priorities, work with minimal supervision, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to lawyers working on complex bankruptcy, insolvency, and litigation matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Edit, format, and proofread legal correspondence and documents, including pleadings, affidavits, and court forms.
  • Prepare and file documents with the courts in accordance with British Columbia procedures and deadlines.
  • Assist with trial and hearing preparation, including compiling briefs and organizing exhibits.
  • Open and close files and maintain accurate, organized digital records.
  • Manage calendars, coordinate meetings, schedule hearings, and monitor important deadlines.
  • Assist with billing and follow up on outstanding accounts as required.
  • Complete administrative duties such as copying, scanning, document preparation, and correspondence.
  • Provide additional administrative and clerical support as required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a recognized Legal Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a Legal Assistant within a British Columbia litigation practice.
  • Experience or familiarity with bankruptcy and insolvency law is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules and litigation procedures.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and document-management software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong proofreading, spelling, and grammar abilities.
  • Exceptional organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow instructions, exercise sound judgment, and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • A collaborative, client-focused approach and commitment to providing excellent service to internal and external clients.
