THE ROLE
A well-established accounting firm is seeking an experienced Controller to join its growing finance team. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will play a key role in supporting the organization’s financial health, strategic planning, and operational efficiency. This opportunity is ideal for a proactive and driven finance professional looking to contribute to a progressive and growth-oriented environment.
The Controller will oversee the organization’s core accounting and financial operations while providing strategic financial insights to leadership. This individual will be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, process improvements, compliance, and team leadership. The role also involves partnering with senior leadership on strategic initiatives and operational projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements, reporting packages, and operational metrics.
- Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, identify trends, and provide insights into financial performance and variances.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and prepare quarterly forecasts to support business planning initiatives.
- Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure strong liquidity management and operational efficiency.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve and automate accounting processes to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
- Support the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of financial systems and software.
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations and reporting requirements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team through effective coaching, performance management, and ongoing support.
- Partner with leadership on strategic initiatives and provide financial guidance on organizational projects and business decisions.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- CPA designation in good standing.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a Controller or similar senior finance leadership role.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with a strong focus on team development and mentorship.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to provide clear financial insights to senior leadership.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP and time/billing software is considered an asset.
