Controller (Fractional/Part-Time) – Vancouver, BC

Remote | Occasional on-site Required | 10-15 hours per week| Independent Contractor

THE ROLE

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Controller to oversee all financial and accounting operations across affiliated entities. Reporting directly to senior leadership, this role is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and strong internal controls while providing strategic financial insight to support organizational growth.

The successful candidate will manage full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance requirements, while also acting as a key advisor to leadership on financial strategy and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting working papers
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide actionable insights
  • Develop and track KPIs to support decision-making

Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow Management

  • Lead annual budgeting and multi-year forecasting
  • Maintain detailed cash flow projections and monitor liquidity
  • Manage banking activities, reconciliations, and transfers
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial performance

Accounts Payable, Receivable & Invoicing

  • Manage invoicing, collections, and receivables
  • Oversee full accounts payable cycle and vendor relationships
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations

Tax, Payroll & Compliance

  • Handle CRA remittances, GST/HST filings, and contractor reporting
  • Oversee payroll processing and deductions
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations
  • Manage WorkSafeBC/WCB reporting requirements

Internal Controls & Risk Management

  • Design and maintain internal financial controls
  • Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Liaise with accountants, auditors, banks, and regulatory bodies
  • Maintain audit-ready financial records

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Maintain organizational databases and records
  • Support contract management and documentation
  • Improve financial systems and workflows
  • Collaborate with internal teams and support special projects

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–5+ years in a Controller, Senior Accountant, or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian tax and payroll requirements
  • Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, Sage) and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with WorkSafeBC/WCB reporting
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • High level of integrity and professionalism

  • Strong process improvement and systems-thinking mindset
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with financial compliance and regulatory frameworks
