Accounting Team Lead

THE ROLE
We are currently partnering with a well-established public sector organization to recruit an experienced Accounting Team Lead to join their Finance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accounting professional who enjoys combining hands-on financial responsibilities with team leadership, process improvement and stakeholder engagement. You will play a key role in supporting financial operations, reporting cycles, budgeting and continuous improvement initiatives within a complex and fast-paced environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the accounting team and wider finance function with technical expertise and guidance
- Lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting processes
- Prepare reconciliations, schedules, forecasts and financial reports
- Analyse financial results, investigate variances and recommend corrective actions
- Assist with budgeting processes, planning and financial analysis
- Improve systems, controls and accounting procedures
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, budget holders, auditors, suppliers and external partners
- Prepare ad hoc reporting and analysis for internal and external audiences
- Provide leadership, training and oversight to accounting support staff where required
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- CPA qualified with progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP; exposure to Public Sector Accounting Standards would be an asset
- Proven experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting and forecasting
- Advanced Excel and strong data analysis skills
- Experience working with ERP systems such as PeopleSoft or similar platforms
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with sound judgement and attention to detail
