THE CLIENT

Our client is a well-established and growing heavy equipment business based in Hope, BC, serving customers across construction and industrial sectors. Operating in a fast-paced, asset-intensive environment, the company specializes in equipment sales, service, and machine trading.

  

THE ROLE

Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller to take full ownership of accounting, finance, and treasury operations. This role will allow ownership to step away from daily AP/AR oversight and transactional review, while ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting, disciplined cash management, and sound financial guidance.

 

You will be the primary finance leader within the organization. They are looking for a Controller who is accountable, detail-oriented, and confident in both execution and judgment. This is not a corporate head-office finance role, this is embedded, operational finance leadership within a hands-on business.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Full-Cycle Accounting Ownership

  • Manage end-to-end accounting including AP, AR, payroll, bank reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of expenses, revenue, assets, and liabilities
  • Oversee vendor payments, collections, and customer account management
  • Maintain strong documentation and audit-ready financial records

Equipment, Inventory & Asset Accounting

  • Accurately track inventory, capital equipment, equipment trade-ins, and disposals
  • Apply proper accounting treatment to machine trading transactions
  • Monitor inventory valuation and ensure cost accuracy
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules

Tax & Compliance

  • Manage GST, PST, payroll remittances, and related filings
  • Coordinate corporate tax filings with external advisors
  • Provide internal guidance on tax applicability for services and equipment transactions
  • Oversee government reporting platforms including CARM

Cash Flow, Treasury & Banking

  • Prepare and maintain weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts
  • Monitor liquidity and proactively manage working capital
  • Execute and oversee banking activities including wires, EFTs, and ACH (domestic & international)
  • Support financing initiatives including equipment loans and operating lines

Financial Reporting & Operational Support

  • Produce accurate and timely internal financial reporting
  • Support ownership with financial insights and operational analysis
  • Implement internal controls and process improvements
  • Act as the primary finance contact for staff and customers — answering questions and sourcing accurate solutions

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of Controller or senior accounting experience
  • Background in equipment, construction, trucking, or industrial operations preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GST/PST, payroll, AP/AR, inventory, and asset accounting
  • Experience with cashflow forecasting and banking relationships
  • Familiarity with equipment trading and inventory valuation
  • Highly organized, proactive, and solutions-oriented
  • Collaborative communicator who works well with operational teams
  • Comfortable working independently while knowing when to escalate
