THE ROLE

STRIVE is partnering with a well-established and reputable company in search of a Shop Heavy Duty Mechanic to join their team in downtown Ottawa In this permanent, full-time position, you will be responsible for inspecting, servicing, maintaining, and repairingvarious heavy duty equipment.

This is a great opportunity for a mechanically skilled professional who enjoys hands-on work in a fast-paced environment. You will play an important role in ensuring equipment is operating safely and efficiently, while providing a high standard of customer service and supporting shop operations. This role also offers the opportunity to mentor apprentices and new hires as the team continues to grow.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Service, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of construction and heavy equipment, including earth-moving machines, compact equipment, and aerial lifts (boom lifts, scissor lifts, telehandlers, generators)
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and complete repairs efficiently
  • Test equipment post-repair to ensure peak performance and safety
  • Maintain accurate records: inspections, maintenance logs, and work orders
  • Keep the shop and yard organized and follow all company policies
  • Uphold Health & Safety standards and contribute to a safe workplace
  • Deliver professional service and support to customers and colleagues
  • Support apprentices and new hires with training and guidance

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3+ years of experience servicing and repairing a variety of heavy-duty equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Comfortable using diagnostic tools and computer applications.
  • 421A or 310T certification is a bonus.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license with a good driver’s abstract in good standing.
  • Willing to work overtime as required.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, safety mindset, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills needed.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
