THE ROLE

Our client has been operating in the heavy civil construction space for over 12 years, with annual revenues of $30-50mil. They are looking to further build out their finance team as they are anticipating an exciting year of growth and winning expansive projects.

The Controller will be a working closely with the COO, using their corporate accounting OR project/cost accounting experience to compliment the team. This individual will need to come with heavy civil construction experience, be effective in their communication and show proficiency in Sage 100 or 300. The Controller will play a critical role in supporting the organization's financial health and strategic goals.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and account reconciliation.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans to support organizational objectives.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and reports for management review.
  • Management of intercompany transactions and oversee monthly and quarterly closeouts.
  • Conduct account analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies related to financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights that drive decision-making.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure smooth audits and compliance.
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Utilize accounting software such as Sage, Power BI or similar tools to streamline processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Corporate Controller or similar role in a heavy civil construction environment.
  • Experience in Sage 100 or 300.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting processes and financial analysis techniques.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Strong leadership abilities with experience managing a team of accounting professionals.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining confidentiality.
