THE ROLE

STRIVE Recruitment are currently partnered with one the most well-respected and recognized boutique law practices in Western Canada as they look to hire an Accountant to join their team. The firm places a strong emphasis on employee well-being and work-life balance, offering a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work two days in the office and three days from home. The Accountant will oversee full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and lead the financial team

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing and managing the daily operations of the accounting team, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, trust accounts, and various account reconciliations.
  • Providing mentorship, professional development, and performance management for the accounting team.
  • Ensuring compliance with Law Society rules in the management of trust accounts, maintaining internal controls that meet audit standards, and addressing any discrepancies.
  • Administering payroll systems, including compensation and bonuses.
  • Preparing, analyzing, and delivering financial reports and forecasts tailored to the needs of all locations.
  • Coordinating the preparation of year-end financial statements and supporting documentation with the firm’s external accountant.
  • Leading the budgeting process and analyzing performance metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Reviewing and refining accounting team processes and functions to enhance efficiency.
  • Maintaining the general ledger system and ensuring effective monitoring of internal financial controls.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a college or university program focused on Accounting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in a similar accounting role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities.
  • Skilled in handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting software such as ProLaw is an asset.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, tact, and discretion in handling sensitive information.
