THE ROLE
STRIVE Recruitment are currently partnered with one the most well-respected and recognized law practices in Western Canada as they look to hire a Senior Accountant. This role reports directly to the Director of Finance. Ideal candidates should have at least 5 years of accounting experience within the legal industry. A bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus on accounting or finance is the minimum educational requirement. Candidates with a CPA designation will be given preference. Responsibilities
- Oversee trust accounting to ensure full compliance with Law Society of BC regulations.
- Lead the billing process, including posting, trust transfers, WIP review, and managing write-offs, while coordinating with the Billing Coordinator and AR Specialist to complete the monthly billing cycle efficiently.
- Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and journal entries at month-end.
- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Review accounts payable for weekly payment runs.
- Handle regulatory reporting obligations, such as PST, GST, EHT, and WCB.
- Generate financial reports and assist senior leadership with budgeting as needed.
- Establish and uphold best practices for accounting procedures.
- Address and resolve escalated billing and accounting issues.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of accounting experience in the legal sector.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with a focus on accounting or finance.
- CPA designation or active enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) is preferred.
- Strong understanding and hands-on experience with trust accounting principles.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Word and Outlook.
- Experience with accounting software, preferably Acumin.
- Familiarity with document management systems, such as Worldox, is an asset.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative internal and external relationships.

- Capable of managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Meticulous attention to detail with strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
